Fire-spinning has become a sensation at the Bay with our campers delighting in performances put on by our counselors every final camp night. The tradition has become so popular, our campers have joined in the shows and have brought new tricks to the game. Before you start spinning with fire, you use poi to practice your routine. Poi originates from the Maori people of New Zealand and has spread across the globe. Poi is the Maori word for 'ball' on a cord. Maori women used Poi to keep their hands flexible for weaving and men for strength and coordination during battle. The practice was also seen in beautiful dance ceremonies where the poi was put on fire and phenomenal images emerged as they swung rhythmically. How to create Sugar Bay Sherbet Straws

  Life at Sugar Bay is just as the name describes it, sweet and sunshine filled all by the sea. We love creating camp crafts and tasty treats as part of our Arts & Crafts program run almost daily at camp.    One of our favourite DIY camp tasty treats has to be Sherbet Straws. They’re so simple to create and will give you a quick pop of sweetness whenever you’re feeling a little down.    Here’s how to create: Sugar Bay Sherbet Straws You will need: Ingredients: Candle, Matches or Lighter Plastic straws Sheet of paper Tablespoon Small round empty jar Citric acid (for sour sherbet) Icing sugar (for sweet sherbet) Super C candy Method: Step 1: Seal one end of your straw   Light up your candle using matches under adult supervision.   Here at Sugar Bay, we love soaking up the sun and live for sunshine-filled days when we can head down to the beach and catch some waves or cool down by splashing through our waterslides.    Most of all, we love the sunshine because they light up our beautiful sun catchers!    One of our favourite crafts to make during Arts & Crafts classes are sun catchers, which is why we decided to show you how we do it, camp style.  DIY Sun Catchers   You will need: Transparent plastic sheet Black Liquid Lead Paint (All colours) Paint Brushes Method: 1. Pick an image you want to duplicate    Depending on the theme at camp, we have a variety of simple pictures printed out which campers get to choose from and decide which one they would like to turn into a sun catcher.
