Get to know – Lollipop

“Surf's up”, he said before he hit the beach in his speedos and shorts.

He's Sugar Bay's very own surfing PC (Pro Counselor), sweet as sugar with a sherbet centered pop... Yes guys it's non other than Lollipop!

Lollipop or Lolli as they call him, has been a Sugar Bay counselor for almost 2 years now. He's a sporty dude who enjoys beach bread, wall climb and of course, surfing!

Lollipop's first camp was Becan & All Sorts week, this was also his most memorable camp. We're guessing this is where he got his ridiculously sweet camp name from.

Lollipop's favourite part of camp is when the sun sets. And where he'd be if he wasn't chatting to us for this interview... The beach of course!

When asked to describe himself in 3 words, Lollipop's answers were “Fun, determined and adventurous”. We're certain this is exactly how all wall climbing and beach bread-making surfers describe themselves. LOL!

When speaking to Lolli, he said that he knows the kids would love to be in his company because he grows strong bonds with all the campers, makes them feel comfortable and creates great friendships with each and every one of them.

Lollipop says the best part of his job would definitely be watching a child stand up for his/her first wave. “That's the best part” he added, as his blue eyes lit up.

Lolli, just like our other counselors has also experienced some embarrassing moments at camp, but the award goes to when he was showing a camper how to stand up on an SUP without falling and he immediately fell off-Great example Lollipop! Great example!

Here's more about the sweetest camp counselor Lollipop who loves the surf, the sand, the sea and most of all... Sugar Bay:

That's it for this week friends. Stay tuned until next week so that you can get to know more about another one of your favourite Sugar Bay camp counselors.

Lollipop and the rest of our counselors at Sugar Bay are looking forward to make new friends with all of you. We'd be delighted for you to join our team and one day become a Sugar Bay Counselor. DIY Guy Fieri Decadent Dessert

A three course meal wouldn't be the same without a decadent dessert. And, a dessert wouldn't be decadent without chocolate!

In celebration of the theme, we have decided to share three, exclusive gourmet recipes from all around the world, from the food man himself, Guy Fieri for you to try out as a three course meal.

  • 8 ounces dark semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted in a double boiler
  • 1/2 cup roasted pecans, chopped

Directions:

  1. Beat the egg whites and sugar with a whisk until light and fluffy in a medium bowl, 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the flour, salt, butter, heavy cream and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. Preheat a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Spoon out 2 tablespoons of the batter into the non-stick pan.
  4. Using a small offset spatula, spread the batter into an even pancake, 4 to 5 centimetres in diameter.
  5. Cook on the first side until golden brown at the edges, 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Flip and cook until golden brown, about 1 more minute.
  7. Remove from the pan and immediately rest and hang on the handle of a wooden spoon, creating the taco.
  8. Set aside until set, about 5 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter.
  9. Dip the tacos in the melted chocolate and allow to sit on the wooden spoon. If making ahead of time, refrigerate until needed.
  10. Fill with the softened ice cream and garnish with chopped pecans.

DIY Guy Fieri Scrumptious Starter

It's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives week at Sugar Bay and this means nothing else but food, food, food and more glorious food!

One thing we love about Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives is that they explore all kinds of food and enjoy them in all kinds of places. Keeping with this variety that the show offers, we have decided to theme everyday with a new country theme, so that our campers can enjoy delicious gourmet meals from all around the world during this week.
In celebration of the theme, we have decided to share three, exclusive gourmet recipes from all around the world, from the food man himself, Guy Fieri for you to try out as a three course meal.

Inspired by America Day... Here's an American-inspired starter that will keep your taste buds tantalized!

American-Inspired Starter: Crisp Mozzarella Sticks – By Guy Fieri

Ingredients:
  • 10 whole-grain melba toasts
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh oregano
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Large pinch ground cayenne, optional
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour or unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 8 sticks part-skim mozzarella string cheese, halved crosswise
  • Olive oil cooking spray, for coating the cheese sticks
  • 1/3 cup store-bought marinara sauce, warmed, for serving
Method:
  1. Pulse the melba toasts in a food processor to make semi-coarse crumbs; transfer to a medium bowl or dish. Mix in the breadcrumbs, oregano, 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper and the cayenne if using.
  2. Whisk together the egg whites, whole egg, garlic and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper in another bowl.
  3. Put the flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a resealable plastic bag. Add the cheese pieces to the bag, close and shake to coat.
  4. Dip one piece of the cheese at a time in the egg mixture first, and then roll firmly in the breadcrumb mixture; then dip the same piece again in the egg mixture followed by the breadcrumb mixture.
(Note: Use one hand with the dry mixture and the other with the wet mixture.)
  5. Place on a parchment paper-lined plate or baking sheet. Freeze for 15 minutes, or up to overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 220°C.
  7. Transfer the frozen cheese sticks to another baking sheet. Fully coat the cheese sticks with the olive oil cooking spray.
  8. Bake until golden, about 12 minutes. Sprinkle with additional salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve immediately with the warm marinara sauce.
Now that you've got the taste...Let's get eating!

10 Facts about Superheroes you didn’t know

At Sugar Bay we love Superheroes and Villains! The good and the bad compliment each other in such an extraordinary way. Marvel and DC Superheroes and Villains are totally what inspired this theme.

Besides being good and bad or just superbly rad... there's a lot more to these Superheroes and Villains than what meets the eye.

Here are some facts you didn't know about Marvel and DC's Superheroes and Villains:

Fact #1:

Before the X-Men comic books, Wolverine was originally an enemy of the Hulk.

Get the Superhero Look - Superman

If you're a DC fan who absolutely loves Superman and couldn't come over for Superheroes versus Villains week at Sugar Bay, then you're at the right place.

Inspired by yet another awesome themed holiday camp...

Here is how we got the Superman look for both our amazing male and female campers.

Guys:

Every guy wants to be Superman. He's smart, good looking and is always ready to save the world.

Keeping with the Superman theme colours, which are red, blue and yellow, this is what we have lined up.

Being a Superman fan, you obviously own a Superman T-Shirt. Pair it up with a pair of red, skinny track pants. Step it up with blue Tomy takkies. Accessorize with a pair of nerd glasses, with a black frame of course and a dark blue backpack.

Keep in mind that even Superman likes to stay warm when it's cooler, so complete your look by carrying a cool, bright yellow hoodie with if you've got saving to do at night.

And the hair? Gel it to the one side the way Superman does.

Girls:

All girls dream of being Superman's other half. And there is definitely hope. Here is how you can channel your inner Super women through this simple Superman inspired dress code.

Start off with a Superman crop top. If you have an ordinary Superman T-Shirt, no worries, just make a knot or crop it with a pair of scissors to suit your desired length.

Grab a pair of red skinny jeans or jeggings to compliment your Superman look femininely.

Put on a red pair of ankle high Converse sneakers and accessorize with a light, chiffon yellow scarf and a detailed dark blue handbag.

A tight, high ponytail is what will get you flying!

Now that you've got the Superhero look... It's time to save the world!
