Life at the Bay

This week we had Cambrige join us for four days . The Sugar Bay paparazzi couldn't leave these happy kids alone! No matter where they went or what they did, the Sugar Bay paparazzi could not stop capturing them having a great time. Who can blame the paparazzi for wanting to capture the incredibly photogenic learners from this wonderful school, as they enjoy sunny days on the beach.  Remember to be yourself, because an original is worth more than a copy. Wow, this week has been amazing with Constantia Park! We have done so many amazing activities and made so many new memories. We especially took a lot of "under the pool" selfies . After all the underwater selfie practice, we learned that when you smile underwater, it's particularly harder to hold your breath! *Gasp* But, of course, we accepted the challenge and managed to do it. Once we got used to it, we couldn't keep the smiles off our faces. We are so sad to be seeing this amazing school leave us. At least we will always have these underwater selfies to remember our time together at Sugar Bay. Now go take a selfie under water =D Float

On Monday afternoon Sugar Bay was flooded with campers from Constantia Park. They traveled all the way from Pretoria to come and see what all their previous class mates had told them. The beach, the activities and to meet these crazy people with funny names they had heard so much about. Let me tell you, I love having 200+ campers at camp. From an outsider looking in, it must definitely look crazy, but as a counselor, it's a dream come true. Two hundred brand new faces that are going to change your life in just five days, and become another beautiful memory. The campers from Constantia definitely brought their energy to camp from the very first day. We divided the group into three sections and were running beach, land and adventure activities every day of the week. There were campers everywhere! This week we had the lovely Northside school come to Sugar Bay all the way from Botswana.We started the week off having a great time at the beach and throughout the week we had an awsome Shark talk and dissected slimy lil fish. Today they have gone off to ushaka wet & wild. This week has been such an adventure! Having so much fun splishing and splashing in the ocean. Zinkwazi really does have a beautiful ocean.    Casino night at camp: We played all kinds of games and tried to win as many magic beans as possible. It was an epic night! Life is like a camera. Hi everyone! We are all very excited to have Khanyisa here at the bay to share some winter rays with us, all the way from Limpopo. Everyone is loving the beach and swimming in the sea, we even had some ladies dancing in the waves!  For the those who prefer to stay dry, there are always beach sports - and the kids here are rocking it. Even though these guys live far away from the beach, we did find some great surfers. So I'm running off to go join in on some land adventures now! Oh by the way, happy international hot dog day! Hi everyone! Do you think you can dance? Well all our campers are eager to find out just that this week. After a day of dancing, jumping, swinging, skating and creating it was time to wind down and make some tasty home made face masks. Everyone had great fun making sure all their friends faces were completely covered.  Some very adventurous campers hiked all the way to campout over the beach, through a forest and along sugarcane roads. "The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun" - Duke Kahanamoku When I started planning Mr Price Pro Week, this quote really inspired me. Duke definitely said it right. For those of you who have been here before, you will know that the #1 rule at Sugar Bay is to have fun! Throw in some new surfers and you have what Mr Price Pro week has turned into. This week at Sugar Bay we have been teaching our campers all about what it takes to become and professional Surfer. We started the week off with teaching the campers surfer lingo! They then went on to spend the ENTIRE day at the beach - the campers even got to eat lunch on the beach! The junior campers got to build their very own mini surfboard in our treasure hunt, in which they had to find the supplies. Next up was the “mini surfers in training” evening program where they had to complete four challenges in order to prove they are a mini surfer. Hi Everyone! This week at sugarbay we have Mr Price pro week! It is very exciting to see all our new aspiring surfers in action. For the creative types there was mini surfboard making, from shells collected at the beach. We even had our very own mini Mr Price Pro competition, with counselors Rooibos, Dashboard, Chana and Solo showing us their moves! We are having a  great time celebrating surfing Sugarbay style! Well hello everyone! This week we imported some new friends all the way from Nigeria. It was very exciting to show them the fun side of South Africa.  I had so much fun running around catching all the action! I even found Spiderman ;) Everyone was loving the beach and got along great even though we all had different accents. We cant wait to have you guys back at camp. Hope you made some great memories and even better friends! Keep on smiling :)

This week at Sugar Bay we had Woodhill College at camp. All the students from Pretoria were very excited to be here. The first day they arrived, we could really feel the energy and there was no time to waste. The campers were here on what we like to call a fun bonding tour! This means their teachers wanted them to have fun, make new friends and socialise with other students that they might not necessarily socialise with at school. We also got them to participate in fun activities, so they could enjoy them with their new friends. We headed down to the beach everyday, and got theses kids surfing and body boarding! While on land, we had several artists making beautiful creations, and the adventurous types were climbing Jacobs ladder with their new mate, or taking the leap of faith off the King Swing. Everyone came together on the final day for a huge adventure down to the launch site where they could fish , make some beach bread or create their very own drea...

Happy hello to all ! I hope the week has brought you all sorts of happiness and smiles! So last week the campers went all Australian on me, which was pretty epic since I love Australia and their accents! Being the camera lady is so entertaining sometimes.. I get to see the funniest things! So as you have probably already seen on our media pages, this week's theme is “Fire & Ice”, which is crazy wicked! I'm loving it! From songs and dance, to team challenges, to ice experiments, it's just been non-stop craziness! As always, the kids are just super stoked to being running around in the sunny sunshine on the beach, who could blame them? Guess how many campers we have?.... Approximately 180 ! So myself and my side-kick, Doodle, are running up, down, left, right, and even flying, to get some awesome action shots of all your beautiful children! Yes... We can do this! From sunshine to rain, we have loved everyday! The kids at Sugar Bay have joined us for our Australian Week theme, where we have been putting on the most shameful Australian accents, but hey.... At least we're trying! My favourite word to say with an accent is “kangaroo”, you should try it!   We recently went on our camp out excursion, what a blast! The kids walked to our camp out spot, where we played stalk the lantern, sang camp songs around the fire, and roasted incredible marshmellows! Not only are we having epic evening activities, I've seen some kids in the ocean doing what they thought they could never do - stand on the surf board! With the help of their supporting counsellors, I've seen so many kids here this week achieve greatness in all aspects. Big ups to all of you :) Have a wonderful week ahead! This week, Sugar Bay was blessed to have the grade 9 students from Redhill join us here at camp! This school has given us some of the best Counsellors in Training (C.I.Ts) that have turned into amazing counsellors, such a Milkshake! Needless to say we were all very excited for these students to join us!, and we have definitely not been disappointed! From the first day, when we took all the campers down to the beach to explore our beautiful front, they showed us they were ready for an awesome week. Casino night on the first night was very exciting, as campers worked in teams to see who could win the most money! Throughout the rest of the activities for the week, we had campers achieving some pretty amazing goals here at camp! Whether they were conquering their fear of heights at high ropes, or bringing out their adventurous side by taking the leap of faith off the King Swing, everyone tried something fun and exciting this week. On Wednesday Sugar Bay was flooded with 100 campers all from Durban! We were lucky enough to host two local popular schools. First up we had Durban North Primary School and Durban Girls College. These Grade 6's and 7's were ready for action when they arrived, and they were excited to spend the next few days here just having fun!   A special request made by the teachers was that campers had to have Team Building this week. Both schools took this challenge by the horns! Basically how it works is that campers get mixed up into teams and then rotate to different stations where as a team they will have to successfully complete a task. We have five different stations : Trigger Happy, Obstacle Course, Skating on thin ice, Leaning tower and my favourite people machine. The reason people machine is my personal favourite is, because teams have to use their bodies to create as many things as they possibly can in a certain amount of time. The best I have seen is defi...
