Making a career choice at the age of seventeen and committing to it for a lifetime is a pivotal decision that comes with a lot of pressure. However, times have evolved and we are no longer restricted to working one specific profession for the rest of our career. During a staff training meeting held at Sugar Bay Resort, young adults were given a career guiding lecture by the Director, Zoe Ellender, who said, “Unlike in the past, you no longer have to serve in one position at one company until you retire and get yourself a golden watch for your services. These days, you are allowed to change your career choice as many times as you want to.   Named after the city of love and beauty… is our lover-of-pink and pretty camp Programmer, Paris!      Paris has been at Sugar Bay for 5 years.    Yes! That's half a decade!      She started of as a counselor in August 2011, worked her way up to become the first ever Arts & Crafts Instructor and then got promoted to Camp Programmer a year later.    Paris's favourite Sugar Bay activity is sea swim. She enjoys sea swim because it doesn't require any specialized equipment. “All you need is your costume and to head down to the beach. It's so much fun splashing around in the waves!” she said.    Our “pretty in pink” programmer's favourite camp food is fish and chips.    We asked Paris “What's the one thing people don't know about you?”   She replied: “I may look like a Princess, but I love getting down and dirty playing soccer and riding...

This week in our Sugar Bay Get to Know series, we get to know Sesame!   Named after the healthy seed and not after the Sesame Street Muppets, Sesame has been a counselor at Sugar Bay for 6 months.   Sesame, or Ses as many would call her, really enjoys stand-up-paddle-boarding (sup), space jump and king swing at Sugar Bay. She told us these were her absolute favourite activities at camp.    The other thing Sesame really loves at camp are the Chicken Schwarmas.    Ses described herself in 3 words as “Happy, Giving and always Willing!”    Sweet Ses, very sweet.  Sesame is quite a funny girl.   Taking a “gap year” has become a popular term among high school graduates. A “gap year” is an extended study leave before a student begins tertiary education, and is intended to give students more time to figure out what career/ degree they would like to pursue. Many school leavers have decided to work as a camp counselor at Sugar Bay during their gap year to reap the benefits that come with the job. Camp counselors have the opportunity to earn an income without sitting in an office all day. This job appeals to many young adults, because of the casual and fun working environment, as well as the travel opportunities it opens up to work at international summer camps.      Besides supervising & mentoring children, the job requires counselors to be playful, social, active and enjoy the beach & outdoors. She's Sugar Bay's Arts and Crafts PC (Pro Counselor) and, one of the most creative and gentle spirits around camp...She is Aurora!    And name well suited we must say... She's as kind, loving and caring as the Disney Princess Aurora herself. Aurora has been a counselor at Sugar Bay for only 5 months but has worked hard and earned her position as a PC.    Aurora's favourite activities are making friendship bracelets and kayaking.   “Surf's up”, he said before he hit the beach in his speedos and shorts. He's Sugar Bay's very own surfing PC (Pro Counselor), sweet as sugar with a sherbet centered pop... Yes guys it's non other than Lollipop!    Lollipop or Lolli as they call him, has been a Sugar Bay counselor for almost 2 years now. He's a sporty dude who enjoys beach bread, wall climb and of course, surfing! Lollipop's first camp was Becan & All Sorts week, this was also his most memorable camp.We're guessing this is where he got his ridiculously sweet camp name from.     Lollipop's favourite part of camp is when the sun sets.
