Love Sweet this Valentine's Day

Valentine's day as everyone knows it, is that one day in the second week of February where you can most certainly paint the town red and not get criticized for it! Red roses, red balloons, red dresses, red hair even! It's all hearts and roses and pretty red things, but most importantly, it's that one day in the year when we appreciate the meaning of love.

We always believe in teaching our Sugar Bay Babies whom we love very much, yes, you, all our wonderful campers, that love begins at home. If it weren't for the love of your wonderful parents, many of you would never know what the Sugar Bay experience is all about, and we wouldn't get to meet and fall in love with all of your wonderful, colourful personalities!

So, this Valentine's day, we want to encourage you and help you show mom and dad how much we appreciate them and how much you love them by making them a little token of love and appreciation… By yourself...

Home-made Heart Lollies:

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 4 teaspoons gelatin dessert (cherry or strawberry)
  • Non-stick cooking spray
Special Tools:
  • Candy thermometer
  • Heart-shaped lollipop mould
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • Transparent Treat Bags
  • Red/Pink Ribbon

    Instructions:

    1. Spray your lollipop molds with non-stick cooking spray. Insert the lollipop sticks into the molds.

     2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar, and corn syrup. Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of your saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, without stirring, until the thermometer reaches 295 degrees celcius.

    3. Stir in the gelatin dessert. Working quickly, spoon the sugar mixture into the lollipop molds.

    Tasteful Tip:

  • Add pretty sprinkles of a different colour and shape or even edible glitter immediately, before the candy hardens.

    4. Let the lollipops cool completely. Carefully remove the lollipops from each mold.

    5. Wrap each lollipop in a clear treat bag and finish off by tying it together with a red ribbon.

Now you may explain to mom and dad why you love them so sweetly this Valentine's day!
