How to make a seashell wind chime

It's no secret that Sugar Bay loves the sea - the sun, the sand, the seashells, pretty much everything that spells sea!

The sea breeze and the sound of the seagulls too.

So we've been so inspired by the sea, that we have decided to share something sensational with you...

How to make a seashell wind chime:

You will need:

Go on a sea sighting adventure where you should search for the following:

  • Seashells (Variety)
  • String/Fishing Line
  • Beach log
  • Eye Bolts
  • Large Beads
  • Hammer
  • Nail
  • Scissors

Method:

  1. You will firstly need to find holes in your shells. If there aren't any, you've got to make them by knocking them with a sharp object, essentially, a nail and hammer until they crack enough for a string to pass through the centre.

  1. Thread the string through the shells in rows of as many shells as you want and secure them with big beads on either side of each shell. It's important that you make knots with the string on either ends of the shell to secure the beads. You may want to keep the rows equal, or you may want to create a pattern by having one long row, followed by one short row, and then another long one, etc.

  1. Attach the metal eye bolts into the bottom end of the beach log by firmly pinning them down whilst using the sharp end to screw them in. You can do this by hand. You need to use as many eye bolts to accommodate the number of the seashell chimes you are creating.

(For example, 4 rows of seashell chimes = 4 eye bolts equally spaced) The spacing between each eye bolt should be 1,5-2 centimeters.

  1. Elevate the beach log. Now, attach the rows of shells and beads to each of the eye bolts by making a strong knot.

  1. Screw on 2 more eye bolts on the top of the beach log so that you can tie a string to depict a hook and hang up your seashell wind chime.

Now all you need is a salty sea breeze and before your wind chimes will be whistling the sweet sounds of the ocean!
