5 Easy Ways to Pack for Camp
Packing for camp can really become a strenuous
and complicating task for any parent whose child hasn’t had the
experience before. Yes, it’s an informal setting, but that doesn’t
mean that our kids can survive out there like the layman. And yes,
it’s in the outdoors, but that doesn’t mean your child needs to
take their entire household with them either. Packing correctly for
camp is actually one of the most significant steps that will
determine whether the camping experience is either fulfilling or
unpleasant. It’s all about getting the essentials right that will
ensure comfort and complete gratification.
Here are some packing essentials that you should never exclude from your child’s luggage before they head over to camp:
1. Medication:
One of the most important things you need to send with your child to camp is definitely their emergency/chronic medication. This would include Asthma pumps, Cortisone, Epipens, etc. This medication needs to be carefully packed, in an easily accessible, zip lock bag with clear dosage information.
2. Day Bag & Essentials:
A backpack with the essentials is compulsory for everyday activities at camp. This backpack needs to have the following absolutely necessary items in it:
• Water bottle
• Sun Stick/Sun block lotion
• Bathing Costume
• Beach Towel
• Peak Cap/Sun Hat
• Flip Flops
• Takkies/Trainers
• Raincoat/Waterproof jacket
• Insect Repellent
3. Clothing:
Old, inexpensive, casual clothing is the best type of clothing for camp. Every camper should have the following items packed in their bags, in the quantity relating to the number of days that they will be spending at camp:
• Shorts
• Track pants
• T-shirts
• Long-sleeved shirts
• Underwear and Sleepwear
• Beanie
• Laundry Bag (To separate the clean stuff from the dirty)
Note: Skirts and dresses aren’t recommended for camp.
4. Personal/Toiletry Items:
Even at camp, feeling fresh and clean makes you feel good. Personal hygiene is essential to enjoy the outdoors experience and keep all campers feeling confident throughout the day. The following items should be packed in a toiletry bag:
• Toothbrush & Toothpaste
• Hairbrush & Shampoo
• Shower Gel
• Deodorant
• Bath Towel (In addition to a beach towel)
• Shaving Gear/Feminine Products/Hairdryer (If applicable)
5. Other Camping Essentials:
The primary purpose of camping is to relish the leisure of the outdoors and get in touch with nature in the company of spontaneous people. Below are a few other camping essentials you are required to take to camp:
• Sleeping Bag
• Torch
• Pen & Paper
• Snacks
• An item of something that you enjoy doing
(Example: Books if you enjoy reading/Skateboard, Helmet & Protective Gear if you enjoy skateboarding).
And that’s how we simplify packing for camp, which is very important since most camps impose restrictions on the sizes of campers’ luggage. Another important task when packing for camp is ensuring that all your child’s clothing/personal items are clearly labeled with your child’s full name. Sugar Bay Resort provides a detailed packing list for campers which make it so much easier for parents and kiddies to be fully prepared for camp well in advance.
