Why Hollywood Boulevard Week?

Hollywood Boulevard Week at Sugar Bay aimed at giving children the opportunity to feel like a celebrity so that they are not intimidated by the elite lifestyle. We encouraged kids to explore the many dimensions of their talents and make use of their untamed imaginations without any restriction.

This holiday camp, we eliminated the barrier built by judgement and class and created an environment where your child could explore and showcase their talents and dreams without being intimidated by what the world will think of them, but with the predetermination and knowledge of “When you do what you love, you will be fulfilled.”

There is no such word as “Impossible” at Sugar Bay. The word itself teaches “I'M-POSSIBLE”.

Our glamorous all week 5-star activities has really revealed some outstanding talent. Most of which, we bet parents never knew existed.

Yes parents, your kids are super talented!

Do you know that Charlize Theron is the only South African who has a star on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame? Charlize is one of the many who have inspired and given Hollywood Boulevard its prominence and this is just one of the many reasons why Sugar Bay was inspired to host a Holiday Camp themed “Hollywood Boulevard Week”.

Children start off with crazy ideas of what they want to be when they're young. So what changes when they're older? Why should there be a barrier between our kids and their dreams? Our kids can also be Proudly South African with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just like Charlize!

Charlize Theron's Hollywood Success Story:

She grew up on her parents' farm in Benoni, near Johannesburg. She is now a successful South African and American actress, producer and fashion model.

As a child, Charlize attended Putfontein Primary School, a period later, she was characterised as not "fitting in."At 13, she was sent to boarding school and began her studies at the National School of thE Arts in Johannesburg.

When Charlize was 16, her alcoholic father physically attacked her mother and threatened both her mother and her while drunk. Her mother then shot and killed him. The shooting was legally adjudged to have been self-defence and her mother faced no charges.

Although seeing herself as a dancer, Theron at 16 won a one-year modelling contract at a local competition in Salerno and with her mother moved to Milan, Italy. After Theron spent a year modelling throughout Europe, she and her mother moved to New York City and Miami, Florida. In New York, she attended the Joffrey Ballet School, where she trained as a ballet dancer until a knee injury closed this career path.

As Theron recalled in 2008:

"I went to New York for three days to model, and then I spent a winter in New York in a friend's windowless basement apartment. I was broke, I was taking class at the Joffrey Ballet, and my knees gave out. I realized I couldn't dance anymore, and I went into a major depression. My mom came over from South Africa and said, 'Either you figure out what to do next or you come home, because you can sulk in South Africa'."

At 19, Theron flew to Los Angeles, on a one-way ticket her mother bought her, intending now to work in the film industry. During her early months there, she went to a Hollywood Boulevard bank to cash a check her mother had sent her to help with the rent. When the teller refused to cash it, Theron engaged in a shouting match with him. Upon seeing this, talent agent John Crosby, in line behind her, handed her his business card and subsequently introduced her to casting agents and also an acting school.

Every child has dreams, has passion and has talent and every individual endures some sort of hardship no matter their financial status, ethnicity, gender or age.

You don't need to grow up rich, you don't need to attend supreme schools, you don't need to have a perfect life, you just need a dream, a passion that drives your dream and a talent to make it happen.
