5 Tips to manage hectic homework loads

So we're less than a month away from our exciting themed holiday camps at Sugar Bay and that's a great thing! Except, we can't prepare kids for fun, unless they've worked hard enough to pick up their grades. There is also one other thing that is starting to pick up right now and that is our kids' homework loads.

They're writing reports on a daily basis, they're building projects on a weekly basis, and they’re reviewing books during their weekends and so much more!

It's okay if your child is struggling to balance a hectic daily routine and at the same time accomplish workloads of homework, because we at Sugar Bay have done our homework and are proud to say… We've got your back!

5 Tips to manage hectic homework loads:

 1. Find a quiet place to work and study

A quiet room free of any modern day distractions like the television would be a great start to ensure that the kiddies are focused and actually getting their work done.

 2. Establish a homework routine

This routine can be established once you have taken your child's and your schedule into consideration. You can allocate a certain time period each day dedicated to homework – for example, straight after school/after dinner/etc.

3. Teach kids time-management skills

Time-management and organizational skills are imperative for kids to keep their heads above water. It is very important that you analyze the homework workload every day and make use of a homework planner which will allocate a certain amount of time per subject in order to manage the work load.

4. Plan ahead for major projects by communicating

Planning ahead for big projects is absolutely necessary. We don't want stressed out kids who announce to you that a big project is due the night before the due date, especially not if it was one handed to them three weeks ago. The only way to resolve this issue is to make time for communication. Always communicate with your kids about homework and major projects/assignments, even if it means on a daily basis.

5. Support your kids

It's important to show your kids that you believe homework is important so that they can take their homework seriously. Always make yourself available for assistance when needed, but ensure that the kids are aware that you will not be doing the homework for them.

Tip:

Ask your child specific questions so that you know he/she understands the task and what is expected of him/ her such as:

  • Do you understand the task?
  •  What help will you need to complete it on time?
  • Do you have everything you need to complete the task?

And that dear friends, is how you get your kids to get their homework done hassle free!
