5 Fun Facts: The Jungle Book
It’s our final holiday camp for the July holidays… It’s Jungle Book week at Sugar Bay! We have turned Sugar Bay into an adventure filled jungle full of little man cubs’ waiting to explore what the wild side has to offer.
The new Jungle Book 3D motion picture just aired on the big screen a month ago. It has brought the 1967 classic back to life decades later and has managed to become the latest topic for discussion.
In celebration of this remarkable Disney children’s story and Jungle Book week at Sugar Bay, here are:
5 Things You Didn't Know About The Jungle Book:
1. It was the last film Walt Disney worked on
Walt Disney passed away in 1966 from complications from lung cancer. 'The Jungle Book' was released the following year, making it the last animated film to have its production personally supervised by Walt Disney himself.
2. "Mowgli" is pronounced wrong
According to author, Rudyard Kipling's daughter, the first syllable of Mowgli's name rhymes with "cow" rather than "show." The mispronunciation was not unique to Disney, as it showed up in at least one previous film adaptation of the book.
3. Kaa and Winnie the Pooh have the same voice
Streling Holloway is the voice of both Kaa and Winnie the Pooh. Ironic how Christopher Robin’s cute little bear and The Jungle Book’s venomous spitting snake share the same voice.
4. The Vultures were supposed to be voiced by the Beatles
The original plan was for the Beatles to voice the four vultures who befriend Mowgli when he feels betrayed by Baloo. However, the Beatles busy schedule didn't leave time for them to record their lines.
5. Kaa’s song “Trust in Me” was originally written for Mary Poppins
Kaa's song “Trust in Me” was once called “Land of Sand.” It was written as part of a multi-song sequence in 'Mary Poppins' in which Mary and the Banks children travel around the world with the aid of a magic compass.
Wow! The Jungle Book really has some very exciting DYK (Did you know) facts. We hope you have learnt something about this timeless children’s masterpiece.
